Awakening in America

Over the years, Edie Weinstein has written for mainstream and transformational publications, and she has conducted interviews with hundreds of notable figures in the transformational fields, including His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson, and many others.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of co-creating an experience with a man whose intuitive healing work is profound. He shared insights with me that he had no way of knowing, as we had just met. He noticed a symbolic Wonder Woman cape that I often wore because I sometimes consider myself a Super Sh/ero. He described my body's reactions to the stressors I had faced and suggested ways to remedy them. His words resonated with my present state and reflected the relationship dynamics that had long required change.

While attending the Mind, Body, Spirit Expo in the Philadelphia area, I felt an internal focus, and I experienced an intense re-energizing, contrasting with the lethargy I felt just a day prior. As I stepped away from preconceived notions of what to expect, the sensation of literally and figuratively waking up intensified. For days afterward, I felt uplifted, not quite ‘walking on sunshine,’ but definitely close.

Robert Taub is a grounded Renaissance Man, whose mainstream education and career laid the foundation for a life that has now transitioned from the mainstream to the metaphysical realm. He is the author of Awakening in America: An Adventure In Awareness.

Please describe the journey leading you to the work you are doing now.

For me, there is a clear distinction between pre- and post-1987, the year of the Harmonic Convergence. Before that, I would have considered it a complete privilege to live my life as an information systems specialist and project manager at United Airlines’ executive offices in Illinois, thriving in Chicago’s upscale River North neighborhood with an active social life.

However, I began to hear the word “spirituality” softly whispering in my mind. As an avid reader, I sought spiritual texts and turned to meditation to uncover its meaning. In 1989, I left United to become a contract technology instructor, which afforded me more time for spiritual pursuits.

Contracting turned out to be perfect for the challenges I faced next. In 1992, I became ill with a series of difficult conditions and by 1994, I was nearly confined to a wheelchair. Diagnosed with severe arthritis, psoriasis, exhaustion, and alopecia, I explored allopathic remedies that yielded no results, eventually turning to alternative modalities for relief. This journey took years to reveal what true healing meant. As I actively participated in my healing, I began to recover.

Emerging from my ordeal illuminated that I had not only experienced healing but also a spiritual awakening. I felt more alive and conscious than ever before. To reach this elevated consciousness, I needed to release outdated beliefs and lifestyle choices that had manifested as dis-ease in my body.

I later read that small numbers of individuals worldwide were awakening, prompting me to connect with them. It was an exciting time to rediscover my true self.

Many of the people I encountered were also healing themselves and demonstrating what was possible. We were lightworkers, individuals contributing to healing by bringing our own light into the world. Around this time, as we approached the year 2000 with its Armageddon implications, I believe the lightworking community was vital in paving the way for a new way of living on Earth.

This experience underscored the impact I could have on others, inspiring me deeply. My corporate experience and MBA prepared me in many ways, but my real healing work began in 2000 after I experienced a profound expansion in consciousness akin to a near-death experience, albeit spontaneous and without trauma. It felt as though I had completed a lifetime yet remained in the same body, fundamentally transforming my life.

My hands began to move with an innate knowingness I couldn’t have conjured myself. I felt compelled to assist individuals through healing, initially collaborating with other healers to comprehend the gifts I had received, and later working independently. Alongside energy transfer through my hands, I developed the ability of intuitive sight, providing insight into people's energy fields, receiving communications from their high Self, or soul, and channeling Source energies for healing. I haven’t encountered practitioners who combine these abilities in the same way, and I have witnessed positive outcomes through my compassionate intuitive counseling that addresses the root of complex issues.

How would you describe your work? Is ‘medical intuitive’ an appropriate term?

While ‘medical intuitive’ is part of what I do, each session with clients transcends mere medical issues. I work with individuals facing various challenges, from cancer to depression, frustration with life, or seeking improvement in relationships and family dynamics. What unites my clients is our collaborative effort—using my intuitive sight and energy transfer alongside their own intention to access and heal the core of their problem. Considering that physical issues often stem from emotional and energetic roots, we focus our work in that realm, ensuring it subsequently affects the physical body.

Since we’re operating in the energy domain rather than linear space, my sessions are not hands-on. In fact, all my one-on-one work occurs via phone, allowing me to assist clients throughout the U.S. and overseas. This format benefits clients, as they can relax in their spaces after our sessions.

A typical session lasts one to two hours, usually beginning with a reading since clients often seek clarity on their issues. I utilize intuitive sight to identify areas of imbalance and help clients comprehend their situation, ultimately working towards healing. I become a conduit for varied energies and collaborate with them to shift what I perceive through my intuitive sight. Throughout our sessions, clients share their experiences and process their feelings, while there may be quiet moments as they enter meditative states. Many clients report feeling unstuck emotions or experiencing flows of soothing vibrations as we work with energies at such a deep level. It’s a privilege to engage in this private space, having encountered various personal and sensitive insights previously. Compassionate intuitive counseling allows me to share what their soul allows me to see, indicating readiness to address those matters.

Healing or remissions often occur during individual sessions and also among audiences at my workshops. Nevertheless, I view healing as a continuum. Smaller issues can often clear within a single session, while deeper problems may involve multiple layers, which we address over time. Sometimes healing can be as straightforward as helping a client recognize their responsibility in a situation to facilitate progress. I recall beginning weekly two-hour sessions with a severely depressed woman; after a month of addressing painful memories, she felt significantly better and became a regular client, ultimately overcoming her depression entirely.

What I offer can also serve as immediate treatment. A woman contacted me twice after experiencing heart palpitations, which she believed were energetically and emotionally rooted. Together, we processed the stress from her full-time job, her part-time writing, house maintenance, and relationship challenges, alleviating her symptoms. While I don’t substitute medical professionals, addressing her energetic sensations prevented potential issues with her physical heart.

Another client who initially sought help for depression continued with me for three years of weekly sessions for spiritual advancement. We began by working through her painful childhood, moved to addressing past life karma, and eventually, she learned to communicate with deceased loved ones, unlocking profound insights about their shared life purpose. She then developed the ability to read energy fields, including mine, leading her to engage in impactful compassionate work with children. It’s remarkable how healing ourselves enhances our capacity to support others.

Where did the title Awakening in America originate?

It came to me in a dream, envisioning a book cover with that title. Shortly after, I received thoughts, images, and words that became the first book in a series, Awakening in America®: An Adventure in Awareness, now available as an e-book on Amazon. This information has birthed Awakening in America® workshops I facilitate at expos across the country. The premise is that doing spiritual work in America can be exceptionally challenging. We possess luxuries associated with being a leading first-world nation—clean water, food, electricity, and personal safety, which provide ample energy to devote to personal and community-based spiritual development. Yet, American culture often hinders our ability to harness these opportunities effectively. Navigating this terrain is tough, even for those striving for personal growth; there’s substantial pressure to advance, but it begs the question: where are we truly headed?

Thus, Awakening in America® provides guidance on achieving spiritual advancement—some principles to live by that aren’t always easy to implement. This process is crucial, as it empowers individuals to rise above the consumerism and superficial distractions prevalent in society, allowing us to seize opportunities for a life more aligned with our souls and fostering healing in the body, mind, and spirit. This work offers significant fulfillment—everyone should embrace it.

How do you link the mainstream with the metaphysical in ways that avoid what I call ‘cosmic foo foo’?

My approach is grounded, partly due to my business background. Training corporate executives is hardly “foo foo.” There’s a common misconception that non-physical experiences occur in distant realms beyond our reach, but that’s not accurate. All potentials for higher energy and healing dwell within us.

What essential questions should we consider as we awaken?

What is your true authentic path? Why are you here? What have you come to accomplish in this lifetime? What can you do to achieve the health and life you desire?

Challenges possess pathways through them, but discovering those answers can be daunting, especially with an overwhelming array of spiritual books, workshops, teachers, gurus, events, and healing methods—many that promise quick fixes. This taps into our cultural longing for effortless solutions, making discernment crucial. True healing necessitates full presence and commitment; focus should shift to what genuinely drives healing and awakening: a willingness to surrender to the process, attentiveness to your soul’s guidance, and integrating that wisdom into your life.

Follow your heart—not your head or what others dictate. While similarities exist across spiritual disciplines, each path is unique. I took a slow and steady approach, savoring each revelation. My journey post-Harmonic Convergence involved considerable difficulty, and during that time, being an enthusiastic proponent of humanity was a challenge. However, having emerged from it, I harness much clarity regarding the significance of human life.

True healing may necessitate lifestyle changes, severing toxic relationships or projects, or altering unhealthy behaviors used as a salve for internal pain. My role is to facilitate the release of that pain, enabling clients to move past their previous habits or improve relationships for healthier dynamics. I connect them to the deeper motivations to make those lifestyle changes more appealing and sustainable. A person simply needs to be willing and ready to engage in the necessary work, and healing will follow, leading to enhanced awareness of their identity and purpose in life. This process, while demanding, is incredibly rewarding. Pain signifies part of the journey, reminding us when we stray from our path, but my awakening journey—and helping others to achieve theirs—has been far more profound than I ever anticipated.

How do you prepare for sessions?

My connection to Source and the higher aspects of myself is always in place now, so no special preparation is necessary before a session. Initially, I would sit in a specific position, but now I might walk around or lie on my office couch with my headset on. When I feel comfortable during a session, it seems to help clients feel more at ease as well.

Do you step aside, or is it ‘you’ working as a co-creator with the person?

It’s deeply heart-oriented for me. While aware of my lower self and my higher Self, I perceive them as a unified whole. Sometimes I read and channel higher energies, while at other times, I draw upon personal experiences to assist clients.

As I mentioned previously, clients are co-creators in this process. While I use my intuitive sight, their soul controls what I am able to perceive. This means that their higher Self helps guide us towards what requires attention during our work. This may not always follow a linear approach. For example, if someone seeks assistance for a specific physical issue, their soul might present other areas needing healing before we tackle the initial concern. Our energetic bodies comprise intricately interconnected layers, and experiences that seem unrelated may originate from the same cause. Ultimately, we address what the client brings in, but we may do so through whatever route their soul decides to take.

Is belief essential for healing to occur?

Yes, belief is a crucial element, but equally important is participation in the process. Belief quickly shifts to certainty as clients begin to see results.

One client grappling with addiction approached me, expressing a desire for help but also identifying as “very skeptical.” He sought to have his addiction “taken away” and often argued as the emotional roots of his issues resurfaced. Ultimately, we concurred to end our sessions after he refused to accept responsibility for his situation.

The desire to achieve deep-level healing empowers clients to confront whatever arises during sessions. The body’s intrinsic capacity to heal is well-recognized. In my experience, healing occurs when three elements converge: the intention of God—a complete surrender into the wholeness of being that facilitates all healing; the removal of obstacles from the lower self, or resistance; and alignment with the soul or higher Self, which embodies the interdimensional essence of our being, guiding us on our life lessons and their revelations.

What distinguishes healing from curing?

To me, healing encompasses a broader concept. My healing journey during the mid-90s was both an exploration of holistic methodologies and a collaborative experience with practitioners. Looking back, I can confidently tell clients, “I’ve tried this, and here’s how it worked for me, which can assist you.”

The peaceful transition following a prolonged illness can also represent a healing of sorts, where the soul readies itself to leave the Earth plane and proceeds to the next stage of its journey. Of course, this often leads to a return to resume unfinished lessons from this lifetime. Thus, we always have another opportunity for awakening and achieving greater healing.

Curing is more a term associated with medical science and marketing. Many individuals seek cures—essentially hoping, “Just tell me what’s wrong and eliminate it forever.” While cures can occur through medical or holistic means, life lessons or unresolved puzzles must still be addressed, as I experienced during my personal discovery in the mid-90s. I facilitate clients in recognizing and completing this process, which brings about their benefits.
